Day of Remembrance
Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Green Hill Park, Worcester
June 15, 2014
This is the day we have set aside to honor any new names we have added to the Massachusetts Memorial after being added to the Vietnam wall in Washington, D.C.
Michael Noel Faherty was born December 30, 1946 and raised in Ireland. He came to the United States after graduating high school to live with a cousin in Marlborough. He worked briefly in Waltham when he felt the calling to serve his adopted country and joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Vietnam when his mother became desperately ill. He was given compassionate leave and went home to Ireland to care for her. Unbeknownst to him he carried home a case of malaria and as he became increasingly ill he was misdiagnosed, given blood transfusions and eventually died in Galway, Ireland July 25, 1968.
